that's really cool.  when i first saw it, i thought you had just ironed-on the picture.  the reality is much cooler.

here's me surprised you can actually iron felt.
i thought it would melt or something...

in fact i have, waiting to be recon-ed, a sweater that someone semi-ruined (which is why i got it in a thrift shop) by ironing some acrylic felt appliqus that were on it... (who irons sweaters, anyway?! ok maybe it's because i am not southern...)

anyway, what's the secret temperature at which the iron-on still works and yet the felt doesn't melt?
or did you just use wool felt?

yeah you have to be careful with what temp you use, but yes you can iron felt, even the 100% acrylic craft felt I used for this project.  I used "Therm O Web" brand HeatnBond UltraHold (because that's what they had at my local Joann's) and it only requires you to use the silk setting on your iron, which is pretty low. good luck with your sweater!
