Howdy, knitters,

My cat has started shredding my bathroom rug, which is a classic medium pile yarn-hooked rug from Target. I can't stand finding the little threads everywhere (and who knows how many my cat ingests while doing this), so I want to knit a bathroom rug instead.

Enter Absorba, which seems to be hard on the hands but awesome, given blogger comments. My question: Do cats shred cotton mats? Is this a material kitties like to get their nails in? I guess I could do a large swatch and see, but that might not work...

Any opinions?

Does/did your cat have a scratching post or something that's covered in carpet?  I think there's an association with the texture more than anything if that's the case.

Mercerized (treated, usually shiny) cotton would be more likely to leave bits.  Maybe if you added a non-slip backing, your cat wouldn't find it so enticing?

Are you talking about Absorba the pattern from the book Mason-Dixon Knitting?  From your post, it sounded like you were talking about a yarn by that name.

lol!  In my experience Cats shred EVERYTHING!  I wouldn't spend time making something unless you won't mind having your cat enjoy it Smiley
