I think I'm ready to knit myself a sweater, but I'm very aware that I have "more than average" up top, and I'd kinda like to wear the sweater once I've knitted it!

I've seen some lovely plus sized stuff on ravelry, but it all looks a bit "involved" for a first try!

Anyone have any suggestions on a simple-ish pattern/shaping?  I'd say I'm an intermediate/advanced knitter, but having never done a full sized adult sweater before I've kinda nervy about it (specially the amount of yarn involved, the most I've ever used for a project was 6 balls), though I have done several baby/toddler sized sweaters and jackets, so in theory I should be ok, but it's be niec to have my hand held a little bit!

You could try a custom-fit top-down raglan with short rows for your bust.  Its a really easy pattern, and its made to fit you perfectly.  Google it or take a look at the KALs for examples and how to do it.

There are plus size patterns at ample-knitters.com and in Big Girl Knits, both of which have ravelry groups.
