let me preface this by saying, it's all about these shoes:

that is, I saw these shoes and knew they had to be mine.  The I set about designing the perfect outfit in my head.  I could wear them with anything really- but you know how it is- you see it in your head and nothing less will do
so...

this is simplicity 2962
a little fabric detail- b/c I've been in love with it for a while and visited it on the Hancock's website for a while.  I actually bought from catylouquilts on esty- she rocks!

I guess it's a little blurry- but I think you get the idea.
whole outfit

hmmm...the our mirror must be much dirtier than I thought. anyway- I'm wearing these really sweet charcoal gray slim pants.  I also have this really v-necked sweater I'm re doing to wear over it if I"m chilly.
do y'all think it's fancy enough to wear to an evening wedding that specified "cocktail attire' on the invite?  I'd wear it to drink cocktails...

I think it's very cute and good pattern choices for your figure Smiley

I think of cocktail attire as LBD and heels, but I'm over 35 too, YMMV.

LOVE IT!  Outfit looks amazing on  Smiley

I don't think it would be considered cocktail attire though.   Undecided

Adorable!  I love the fabric.

Sorry, I'm with the others - definitely not cocktail attire.  It's perfect for a morning after the wedding brunch, though!

VERY cute...but not cocktail attire. think a nice dress with heels (or fancy flats) or dress pants with a dressy top.

Hmmmm... Are you sure small children are welcome? No offense but sometimes brides let this slip their minds. Sometimes parents let it slip too- evening cocktail attired wedding just doesn't sound like a kid friendly event to me- sounds like the kids would be bored out of their little heads.

Yes, it's quite rude to put "don't bring the kids" on an invitation, but if the childrens names weren't listed it usually means they aren't invited.

I say get a sitter and go kick up your heels Smiley leave the kids where they will have just as much fun as you!

the kids names were on the invitation and it's been made very clear that everyone who is able to come is expected to.  also- it's four hours away and we'll be staying for two days.

In that case wear it- no sense in trying to keep up with the little ones in heels Smiley

I'm glad it was clear on the invite, so often it's not. The couple probably has stuff planned for kids, which is great Smiley

Do you have a girl? You could do her a hair bow to match you from the scraps Smiley

totally agree that fabric is lovely!

as for wedding question, i love clothes, but not doing smart occations and worring what i wear isnt suitable. (and i never wear heels). When i went to a wedding last summer i really wasnt looking forwards to it ( for many reasons) but the night before just decided to wear an old vintage summer dress, which wasnt perfect, and go and enjoy myself. They invited Me and wanted My company, whatever im wearing! I had a fantastic night.
The people are more important than the clothes, and tho sparkly dresses is what comes to mind as cocktail dress, im sure theyll love you and your children being there, and the effort youve put into your outfit. enjoy!

oh and the shoes are great Smiley

Thank you so much! the best about the shoe=only $5!!
I agree with you about the clothes- althoughi don't want to feel under dressed.  It's my cousin's wedding and its the first big wedding ( i got married @ the court house).  It's kind of being treated like a mini family reunion so I figure no one will care about my clothes anyway, just that I drove all the way there with a 3 year old and 1 1/2 year old.  AND everyone will looking at the bride anyway!

I think your tops adorable!! -- but not cocktail attire.

I would call the bride, or maybe her sister or maid of honor and ask what they are considering cocktail attire. I would say at least a skirt or dress with a dressy top and dressy heels or flats.

Your outfits really cute, but doesn't say dressed up enough for a wedding IMHO. and when someone in my family gets married, there's ALWAYS a large family photo, and you'll never regret being dressed nice.

i agree with everyone else, its definitely not cocktail attire, it looks more like casual, i see cocktail attire as a lbd or another type of little dress and some heels... its adorable though and looks great with the shoes ^_^

well. you asked. and I'm not the only one who thinks that while your top is cute, it's not really cocktail attire.

you're right- I did ask.  I guess I  was just surprized by how not cocktial attire everyone seems to think it is.  I so have a skewed view of was is fancy and what isn't.  I feel like if I'm wearing a shirt that doesn't have a stain on it I'm dressed up.
I talked to my mom to find out what she was wearing and got the impression that this was a more casual interpretation of cocktail attire-so thanks for the input everyone!
