not a problem eliea!

You can get bag balm at feed stores, too.  I'm sure it's available online as well.  Mary Kay makes a product very similar, but it smells much girlier.  I believe it's called Night Emollient Cream.
thanks for that info! yeah, i like to add vanilla extract into mine to make it smell nice.

summertimerolls, my friends do that too. they'll glance at me picking my fingers and say "what's on your mind?" or "stop stressing out"

solitaire, i fear that when i'm 42 i'll still be picking. i'm going to start to go to a counselor this summer and will not be surprised if i'm told i have an anxiety disorder. in fact, i've always been too anxious to even go to a therapist! ack! but i think that compulsive skin picking is something that not a lot of people know about. i'm hoping that knowledge will spread. :] good luck with everything!

sunflowersmiles (cute screen name), yeah i have the feeling most people do it when they're anxious but i don't know.

i know today i picked my left middle finger to pieces and gave up on that one and moved to my left thumb because i have so much due soon. too soon!

thanks everyone for the feedback!

i pick at my nails all the time, but never my fingers, even though they still seem to get beat up and cut up all the time anyways. a friend that i work with though picks at her fingers to the point where she got staff infection in one and it swelled up really big and ew and stuff.

anyways, super awesome pictures! i really love the collage

I am a total finger picker too.  I didn't know that it was a disease...

When I had acrylics done on my nails it was very difficult for me to pick my cuticles, so I actually stopped for awhile.  But - I don't like acrylics.  Feels weird.

They say they climb mountains because they are there.  I wonder if it would astound them to know that the very same reason is why the rest of us go around them.

cool. we can have a nasty fingers club.
can I be the secretary?
I have an anxiety disorder too and I used to bite my nails but I weaned myself off that and then, like, a year later I started ripping my fingers to shreds.
Does anybody else do there toes too?
I sit at the computer and peel all the skin off my toes.
i didn't know anyone did this.  I thought I was just neurotic.

I do my toes too sometimes. It depends. I have weird toes. However I totally do my toes on purpose. My fingers are not even a thought.

Oh yeah I pick my toes all the time -- I was doing that when I scrolled down to this in Hottest New Topics. It has pretty gross results and I always think that I will just let 'em heal and then get a nice pedicure and I will let people see my feet...But I don't. Also pedicures just make it worse for me in the long run.

I don't pick at my fingers too much anymore, though. I used to chew on 'em a lot but that was just way too damaging and I turned to pickin' toes. The toes are where it's at!

I know crafting and Craftster does a whole lot for my wellbeing, but this got me to sit up.  I'm 42 too, and I too pick my fingers to shreds.  There are some days that I doubt that I leave fingerprints behind.  I used to chew my nails and stopped that, but the skin is always an unconscious target.  I've been thinking of getting acrylics to try to stop.

But now I'm wondering if an ongoing hand collage might be the external reinforcement I need... This collage is beautiful... the texture, the colors.

Thank you so much for posting this!
