So I have been eyeing this pan for quite some time now. http://www.surlatable.com/product/kitchenbakeware/cake+%26+springform+pans/wilton++giant+cupcake+cake+pan.do I just used a box cake mix. I am going to make a prettier one probably this weekend. So here is the test run using the cupcake pan.

I know everyone posts such beautiful cake and mine can't hold a candle to any of them. But I am just really excited to get the pan.  Grin

I got the pan for $15 dollars at Joanns fabric store. It was originally $30 and then I used a 50% off coupon. I was so happy. DH thinks I love the pan more than him. I show it to everyone who comes to our house.

Oh you lucky duck. Cheesy I have been oogling that pan for ages now. And I'm super excited because my birthday is in a few weeks and my darling sister has been telling me not to buy it, cause someone "might" be getting me one. Cheesy Ahhhh!!!! And your cupcake is sublime. It's super how you used mms for the sprinkles... I probably wouldn't have thought of that. Cheesy great cake.

That's great! I was looking for a cute easy cake for my daughter's birthday. This is it. I went right online and found it at Amazon. I not prone to such impulse purchases, but it looked like a must-have to me.

Thanks for sharing.

I just used betty crocker cake mix and I baked it for about 45 minutes. I was a little nervous to make a cake from scratch because I thought I was risking it coming out way funky.

I actually got mine on eBay - but it was shipped from Amazon.com. They have it at Joann (if there's one nearby) and they usually always have some sort of 40-50% off coupon you can use.  I was just impatient! But it was a great purchase. You can use it for so many different occasions. Every one I've made has been radically different from the last and they are increasingly adorable! I reccommend it!

I just discovered this pan last week and am waiting for a coupon for Joanns or Michaels.  I think it would be great to decorate for a casual wedding reception and serve regular sized cupcakes along with it.  That's the plan right now, even though the BF and I aren't even engaged yet.  I told him about my idea, and sadly he was not quite as enthused as I.  Oh well...I'm still buying the pan!

My giant cupcake had babies!

After I saw this post, I had to buy this pan for my daughter's birthday cake. For time's sake, we went with a boxed mix and canned frosting, but I see lots of possibilities. It came out of the pan like a dream, and since we used two boxes of cake mix, we had extra for babies. I think the girls will like it tonight, because, after all, it is pink!!

I've been eyeballing  Shocked this pan for a while, and I'm actually going to go out and buy it.  I do have a couple questions tho...

1. I know you bake the top and bottom of the cupcake individually in the same pan, but when you put it together is there any problem there?  Does it support the top ok?  Did you have to trim any of the cake to make it level?

2. How did you go about cutting into it?

I may make one of these for my friend's daughter's first birthday, so I was just wondering.

I love the cupcake you made.  It is what a cupcake should be.  Visually delicious. Smiley

I did trim the cake to make it level, but it was very stable after that. The only note is that the top gets a little more baked than the bottom, because it is smaller. However, it wasn't too overdone. My daughter thought the cake was very small, but it is deceptive because it is quite tall. Just cut regular thinnish cake slices, and it was fine. The girls got a real kick out of it last night.

Jachicue- I second pretty much everything wickedgoodknitta said. I just trimmed it visually. I used some frosting to keep the top on and it was way stable. No problems there. It is a super fun super easy cake to make with the pan. Although it does need a double recipe to fill.

I got my pan at Target on clearance for about $10.  With two batches of funfetti cake mix and one giant container of frosting, I made 1 giant cupcake, 9 regular cupcakes, and 12 mini cupcakes. I had to do some minor trimming on the cake, but it's rather sturdy.

I just bought the cake pan. I got it on sale at michaels! I tried to make it for a friend's birthday tomorrow but had some problems. my cake was cooking on the sides but the inside was like lava inside [aka the inside did not cook]. I guess i will just have to try to cook it longer next time....
... i ended up just making regular cupcakes for my friend.

Your GIANT cupcake look YUMMY!!!

I was curious on how long you had to cook the cake? I bought one of the pans a few weeks ago but I am unsure on how long to cook it; would I do it the same length of time as it says in the recipe???  Ok you got me, on the back of the box  Wink
