Spray paint and "patio furniture"

So my dad sold his business and took the office chairs (waiting room style) a desk and some other random furniture. He offered it to me and I want to make the chairs into patio furniture. I'm into the Dia de los muertos kinda stuff.. bright colors and painted skulls. The patio is covered so rain won't attack these wood/cloth chairs hardcore but I still want them to stay in good condition. I want to spray paint these chairs but I have never used spray paint before. Will it work on the chair fabric? How can I keep the paint and fabric protected? What kinda paint do I use? So lost.......
