skirt from huge pants

I've been curious about making skirts from pants, but was afraid to try it until now!

I found this post and none of the pictures or links work. I have some HUGE camo pants that I want to make into a skirt. I get the basic idea of this BUT no one is mentioning the waistband. So how do you deal with that and make that fit?

anyone have any ideas or info?

I did find a nice tutorials for making jeans into a skirt but they don't mention decreasing the waistband either. I am not sure I want to just cut it and take out- since I don't know if I want the seam in the waistband. I might do this anyway- but not sure yet. Right now I am just gathering info!
