I spotted an ad for a class at a local store, where they taught you to make a patchwork cushion.  It was 60 but my boyfriend said "you can so do that without having to be taught".  So I thought I'd have a go at it.  The cushion was more elaborate than these but I thought I'd start off with something simple just to try it out.  This is what I came up with: one simple tote, lined in a blue cotton.  And one sturdier bag with a magnetic snap closure, lined in the same fabric as one of the patchwork pieces.  Sorry these aren't the right way up but I haven't got photoshop installed on this laptop and can't figure out how to flip photos without it.  I really have to find my photoshop disc. Also sorry that they're a bit overexposed, I can't find the charger of my SLR so had to use a crappy compact.

I am so sick of this denim but I had tons of it lying around from when I recovered a sofa in it, and it's great for practising with because if I screw up, I won't have ruined fabric I care about.  My sewing machine behaved very well and sewed through two layers of cotton, one of super thick interfacing, and about six layers of pretty heavy denim (and more in the parts where the binding overlapped), with a needle that has seen better days and needs replacing, and didn't complain once.

This is the lining of the tote:

Here's the patterned lining of the other bag:

Here's where I screwed up the magnetic snap - I put it on the wrong way round.  The bit with the hole should be on the bag and the bit that goes into it should be on the closure flap, but I didn't realise till I'd finished that I'd put the wrong part on the wrong bits.  Ah well, it still works fine.

Wow, this is a long post.  Sorry.  Hope you like anyway  Grin
