I spent today making a cool diaper bag for an expectant friend.  The idea is that it's got all kinds of practical aspects (vinyl lining, lots of pockets on the inside and outside) but that it looks like a regular messenger-style bag.

I've put together a tutorial for the bag which is available at my blog, here: http://amingledyarn.wordpress.com/gallery/tutorial-hip-mama-diaper-bag/.  Let me know if there are any problems or questions with the 'tute - and enjoy!

Great job on the diaper bag.  Also thanks for taking the time for the tutorial.  Its very well written.  Your fabric choice is great.  I also like the fact that it looks more like a messenger bag than a diaper bag.

Very cool!  And great job on the tutorial - I didn't read it 100% through, but what I did read, and with all the pics, looks great.  Thanks!

AWESOME bag.  I love that it doesn't look like a diaper bag, but is oh so practical

That's funny-- I've been searching Craftster for the last two days reading every post relating to messenger bags and diaper bags.  I've been wanting to make one of these for a friend of mine.  Thanks so much for the tutorial.  I love your bag and the fabric is fabulous!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for making an actual EASY to understand tutorial with LARGE and clear pics!  I love messenger bags and have been searching for a tutorial, and all the pics are small, or I can't understand half of what they are saying.  I seriously am going to make this soon!  Thanks again!

I was so happy to see that you had posted today!  At first, I thought it was an older post, but was very pleasantly surprised with this great, great, great tut and most gorgeous bag!  Your work is stunning, as usual!  (and I have that fabric, too!  Cheesy)  Thanks again...I'll be sure to give this a go as I have a friend who just had a second baby, and you can never have too many bags!

I would never know that that is a diaper bag.
Heck, I would use it for school, KNOWING it's a diaper bag.
It's great.

It's great, and it looks fantastic - but it would have so many other uses too!  It would be a great craft bag - one pocket for a cross stitch project, one for a crochet amigurumi, the main bit for knitting...

Your tutorial is great too, I'm definitely going to have to try one.  Thanks for making it!

I love it!!  It is a great diaper bag that is functional and looks nice.  Plus, it is one that Daddy wouldn't mind carrying!!!

Thanks so much for the tutorial!  It was really quite easy to follow and I love my new bag!
I made it as a messenger bag since I don't have any kids yet.

I have more pics here.
