i finished this a while ago, but had to reknit the band three times to get the right amount of stretch.  it stretched out suuuuper big the first time, then i knit it too small, then it was still too small...  you know how it goes!  anyway, i present a slouchy hat of my own design!

yarn: plymouth yarns grande 100% baby alpaca (suuuuuuper soft!)
stitch: rose garden stitch

i wish i'd knit it on slightly smaller needles so the fabric was a wee bit denser, but oh well...  i love it anyway!

I like it!  Very slouchy, nice texture and color, and the band looks great!

When I first saw your photo, I thought "SF?".  But then I looked at your profile.  Pretty close . . . lol!  (I'm in the SF Bay Area.)

Oh, and baby alpaca -- that is so cool.  I want to knit with alpaca at some point!

thanks for the compliments!  as far as a pattern, i pretty much made it up as i went along.  cast on however many for the ribbing, knit the band, then i k1, kfb all the way around, then did the rose garden stitch until i felt it was long enough, then started decreases.

i could try and write up a pattern if people are interested...  but i've never really written a pattern before, and i didn't take any notes!  doh!
