Hello fellow Craftsters I have a large collection of knee high socks that have had there toes worn out.   Any ideas on what I could use the remaining fabric for?  It would pain me deeply to trash them.
Thank you much for any suggestions.
Have a great Monday!

Soooo many ideas come to mind!

Once for a Halloween costume I needed a tail (I was Tigger =]) so I took a black and orange striped knee high sock and stuffed it  and pinned it to my butt and voila! SO yeah great for tails... =P
What else you ask?
You could maybe sew a pair to make a some child's footless tights... Use a second pair to make the crotch part and just cut the worn-out toes off...
Or you could  use them for a strap for a purse
Or maybe use a whole bunch of different ones to line a purse for a funky pattern
You can make arm-warmers really easy... cut a hole for your hands and hem them, etc =]
And I if that's too simple and you wanted to make them more fun/colouful use two different coloured pairs and cut them up horizonally (so you get little ringy-dudes) and sew them together alternating and you'll have the funnest arm-warmers ever!
Or you could stuff them and make ears for a child's costume
Or you could use the fabric for straps for a shirt?
Or you could tie them to your suitcase handle so you'll know which one's yours when they come off baggage claim at the aeroporte
Or you could give them to kids to make sock puppets
Or you could use the fabric to cover bangles
Or you could cut them into strips and use them as a hair-scrunchie

And that's just off the top of my head... hope that helps! =]

I also only wear mixmatched socks and have since grade school.  When I did accidentally match my socks terrible things would happen. So needless to say I never match them anymore, ever.

Awesome ideas!!   Thanks..  The one about lining a purse made me think about making a patchwork purse out of my socks.

right? my mother told me she doesnt ever remember me ever wearing them matched.. to me, its easier, and cute. except when i do mixmatch, some days i like to them to have a theme, and is therefore more time consuming, but the one time i did match them ( for some ritzy event crap), horrible things happened to.. o0o

Ha glad I could help, I like the patchwork idea!

Yeah mine never match either. When I do my laundry I have the most fun pairing them so they are best mis-matched. Today it's one green tie-dye and one blue argyle =]

I just cut the cuffs off of three of my favorite long sleeve sweatshirts and plan to use my funny colorful socks as new cuffs.  You know, just cut the sock tops about 5" to 6# from the finished top, chuck the foot part, and sew the (now raveling) edge of the socks right where the old cuffs used to be.  One of my sweatshirts is just plain gray, but will have bright striped hand knit cuffs.  Whee!
