I've kissed alot of frogs - only found 1 prince

I have been inspired by all the green craftsters, So after much thought I realize just how important it is to go green, so I've been focusing my efforts on making a few bags to help eliminate the what seems like a never ending stream of plastic grocery bags that comes in our door.  Here is my result:

And an action shot my son was not too thrilled about having his photo taken with a pink bag lol I think our dog looks a little sad for him too (actually our dog is just a ham and thinks he should be in every photo lol)

I absolutely fell in love with these two prints and had the perfect lining for them and didn't even know it.  I was thrilled that I worked out how to fold them into themselves without the use of a pocket and the weird pulling thing you have to do to make that work.

Action shot I can fit a ton inside it too and it holds WAY more weight than the plastic ones could ever dream of!

I even made a tiny tote for the trips to the quick shop, movie rental place, and those times when a big bag just isn't necessary Smiley

Would love to hear your thoughts

They're all beautiful! I love the blue ones!

How do you fold them into themselves without the pocket?

GothChics, your pictures show the folding  without pocket so clearly!  It took me a while to figure it out, but it's so handy, I could NOT get the pocket to work right for me!

yeah! I'm glad it was helpful I couldn't (in my left handed way) work out the pocket way at all so I had to work out something else I'm glad it helped someone else to see how I did it Smiley

Oh I'm so glad you figured out how to do it without the pocket! I've been dying to make some of these for awhile now, since I'm an environmental engineer I should probably do more for the environment at home. Smiley Can't wait to try these pocketless bags out!

BTW love those fabrics. I actually just bought some of that blue polka dot to use as a lining for a purse, and I used the green version as linings for a purse and a coat! You'll definitely be getting groceries in style now!  Grin

Love the fabrics love the folding, I need to make some of these. I been buying the 99 cent reusuable ones but they are made of like an interfacing feeling fabric and really fugly and the don't fold compactly for shite! I need to force myself to use some of my fabrics instead of hoarding it like I do. I think the skully fabric is super cute.

I didn't I just used one of the billion plastic baggies I had around here as a pattern, and one of the little ones I got from the quick shop for the small one but I did change them up a little because the handles are double folded in the store ones, so I narrowed it  and I changed the width of the gusset so I could maxamize the # of bags I could get from the fabric I had to use too.  I tried to make as little waste in making the bags as I could, I'm now working out how to use the small scraps to make a few zippered pouches lol.

I think it's so great that you and QueenofDIY came up with basically exactly the same bag independently. I think it shows how much we really need more green living options in our lives! Your fabric choices are great!

You should definitely hop over to the link posted before this and see all the other green shopping bag creations! We've been having a grand time over there making bags for about a year now...

I saw them yesterday evening I was going through recent posts and saw a cute b/w one and clicked in. The girl had said something about folding so I was going to help and saw the other link for folding, which was funny to me as even that was different.  the more of us that go green the better though

I am glad to see I was not the only one with a bit of trouble with the pocket.  I like folding it within it's self.  Thank you for tutorial.

Well done on the bags!  I think that you'll find that they're really handy.  When I changed over permanently to cloth bags, it took me 10 months to work my way through all the plastic bags I'd accumulated.(I'd developed an allergy to the plastic bags. They began to give me welts 1/4" high. It was awful.) At the time, I wish I'd had either your or Queenofdiy's tutorial to make a bunch of these. Since I found the tute, I've made 6 or 7. The bagger's don't particularly like them but they're getting better at tolerating them since many places have started selling black bags (recycled plastic bags: I can't carry them either) But, they still aren't thrilled about the cloth option. However, you've done very well on your bags. Pat yourself firmly on the back. Wink Something I'd made was a smallish "Jordy Bag" to carry all my cloth bags in. It makes carrying them much easier and I didn't forget them quite so often.
