Ok, I'm working on a project that is worked in rounds.  I've been making awesome progress with it today until just now when I got to "sc 3 sts tog around"....  Is this just a longer way of saying "sc3tog" or is this totally different?

 Huh Huh Huh

I'm still new at this, can't you tell?!?   Cheesy

I would assume it's the same, I cant imagine what else it would mean...

...except the 'around' makes me think you'd continue decreasing throughout the round, instead of just once?

I would translate it the same way as Oheymegan.

Stitch three together, stitch the next three together, stitch the next three together, all around.
So if you have 21 stitches now, you would end up with seven.

Though I would say that that would give a very noticeable decrease in the diameter of your project, so you should wonder whether that is indeed what should be happening.

I heart your avatar. We should have a Megan party.

I agree too. I think, I was distracted by someone saying my name.

Yeah...  I did it as the pattern said, but the decrease was so dramatic, and I thought it looked horrible.  So I just undid all of those stitches, and did sc2tog instead, and it ended up looking much better!  Smiley  I never thought I'd get to the point where I'd start taking creative license!  LOL!

Oh gosh, I wasn't paying attention either.

Generally, when you start decreasing, you'll decrease while still doing some sc in between.
So I was thinking that decreasing the whole round at once would be drastic.

Now that I am actually reading what is says (i.e. stitch THREE together) I would indeed think that doing that, all the way round, would give something like the start of Pinocchio's nose on his face.
Good for you to change the pattern.
It feels good to realize that you have actually learned something, and can do more than following directions.
