I *just* promised myself no more swaps for the time being, but this one is too fun and small to resist!  I also have been interested in trying out shrinky dinks (also promised myself not to start any new crafts...) and this seems like a great way to jump into it.  Info sent in!

I would love to join this swap, but I have never made anything with Shrinky Dinks.  I just recently bought some Shrinky Dink plastic- would anyone who uses Shrinky Dinks frequently be willing to share some tips with me, please?  I'd like to try to make something before actually joining so I know I won't screw up.  Feel free to PM me! Cheesy

I like to write and outline my graphics with sharpies on the shiny side and then color in with colored pencils on the rough side.  Also, if you need a hole, don't forget to make it before you shrink and that it will be significantly smaller than before shrinking.  I like to use a bigger hole for gift tags than a regular paper punch hole.  It makes it easier to thread a ribbon through there to attach to the gift.  I guess you'll want to consider what you are putting through the hole.

When you are shrinking, the bigger pieces curl up  and sometimes stick to each other.  You can unstick them with some tongs, being careful not to burn yourself.  Can you tell I've made a LOT of Shrinky Dinks?   Cheesy

ETA:  I also like to press my hot Shrinky Dinks with a patterned paper towel right when they come out.  It gives them a little texture.

Here's a tutorial to make little shrinky dink pin heads:

DIY with #6 plastic:

When I make DIY shrinky "paper", I sand the back side so I can color on it with colored pencils.  I like the "ruff and ready" stuff, generally.
