I got my sister in law hooked on cross stitching a few years ago...but never took up the needle myself in that way until this spring. I was inspired by an exhibit at Dayton's Art Institute last year on Marilyn, and created the pattern in Photoshop...selecti ng how many pixels across would equal stitches per inch etc...and here's the result....I must find the right frame for this baby!

This is amazing!! How exactly did you figure out the pixel ratio if you don't mind sharing, I'd love a Marilyn cross stitch of my own I adore her!

That is awesome! I love when an "old-fashioned" form like cross-stitch looks completely new. Doing the picture in monochrome was brilliant. She sparkles!

Ok...here's what I figured out to do it. You open a photo in photoshop which you'd like to convert into a pattern. Crop it to the size you want it to be. I chose 5" across for this example.

I select from the image size menu...the resolution of the pixels to equal how many stitches/squares per inch/foot...here:

And this is the results. I simply choose threads that match the squares as viewed on screen. You have to save a screen capture image to print this in a useful size unless working directly from your computer screen. I'm currently working on a quilt also...the pixels = squares per foot.
