Nintendo Controler Clutch
«
on:
April 09, 2008 07:17:46 PM »
Alright, so here it is, but I really don't like it yet, and I don't know what to do. It's all out of shape and crappy looking. I could maybe line it... or unseem it and try a different tactic.. but something is not working, and I can't give it to the person I wanted to make a gift out of it to until it's perfect.
Anyone have any thoughts?
I'd hate for something so cute to go to waste because I can't make it look like an actual purse.

Wow I adore it! What pattern did you use? Ummm I would suggest lining it, hopefully that would help.

I think it looks great!!
You could try lining it. Have you blocked it yet? I was thinking, and I'm not sure if it would work because I've never tried it, spray it with some starch, what you would use for ironing, then place a towel over it, use low-medium heat. This may help stiffen it up a bit. Also try stitching in a small zipper if you were going to have it close. Stitch the zipper onto fabric first then stitch the fabric onto the purse so it's more sturdy. For a strap if you wanted one you could take one from an old leather purse if you've got one lying around. Or you could knit one, make a sleeve for it (or knit a tube) then take a piece of flexible plastic and slide this inside the tube, stitch it closed and stitch this to the sides.
EDIT: Forgetting that it said clutch and not purse in the title, you'll probably want to use a Clasp Frame if you want it to look like a traditional clutch. I don't know how they'd work with knitting though, but you may be able to find them at JoAnn's...or something similar -

lining it should do the trick.. if u get some of that stuff.. that i cant remember the name of right now.. i am useless! Is it called batting? i dunno?! but you could use that with some cute material over and that should make it hold its shape better.
It is awesome by the way!

it looks awesome. If you're mostly concerned with looks, you could try felting it to give it more structure. It would end up significantly smaller, but it would be stiffer and more controller-like

what about "interfacing" it w/plastic canvas? make a plastic canvas box to fit inside, then sew a lining over it. If it's made of wool, you could felt it, but it would be smaller and it might shrink more in one direction than the other.
Hope you find a method you like. It's really really cute!!!

that's really cool! i love all this gamer stuff that everyone's doing, even though i've never been into it myself, i love it.
about the slouchiness: you know how in some purses (that you buy) they have like a thin cardboard between the lining and the outer material? maybe you could do something like that, in combination with a clutch clasp. like cardstock or something? or that plastic grid stuff so it would still be washable? i dunno, just throwin stuff out there!
you'll have to update and let us know what you decided to do!
