Just some recent henna I've done. Paste on pics, Rajastani henna '06 crop.
I haven't hennaed in a while so I'm kinda rusty Undecided

Very pretty.  I did henna once and my skin got itchy and a little red.  I'm not allergic to anything so that was weird.  Do you think a different powder would do the same thing?  Are they all the same?

What kind of henna did you use? some henna imported is mixed with toxic chemicals (colorants, PPD) which can cause bad reactions.
Red (lawson intermis) Henna is fairly safe, It mighr have been a reaction to one of the mix ins (to hydrate the powder) like lemon, tea, or essential oils.
If your going to henna agian I would suggest buying fresh powder from a seller who can provide you with a MSDS and crop location and year and a simple water/or lemon and tea tree oil mix.

The henna paste stays on about 8 hours, after the paste is removed the dark red/brown stain lasted about a week and a half.
