AWESOME
now can you figure out that topsy turvy tomato grower thingy??
 Wink

An empty milk jug with the bottom cut out, take the cap off and put a tomato plant gently in the container so that the leaves poke out of where you would normally pour. Fill it up with dirt/potting soil, and stick in a sunny place in your apartment or outside. It's a wonderful way to save space and still have my precious tomatoes!

Then I closed off the equalization straw for the pourer and hot glued the pourers inside the spout.

Could you clarify what the equalization straw is?

There' s a little straw that runs through both sides of the pourer.  Just stop up one end of the straw.  If you don't, the bottle will keep pouring even if the plant is sufficiently watered.

I also forgot to mention - I heated one end of the pvc and pinched it closed.  It isn't sealed up or anything, just narrower. I don't know if it actually makes a difference.

You have to keep your hand over the opening to make sure the plant doesn't fall out while you're packing the dirt in, but once that's done you're home free!

I too saw that commercial and almost immediately ran for the credit card and my cell phone since I'm incredibly skilled at killing plants [my list of victims include cacti that I somehow underwatered, bamboo that my cats found delicious, and ivy which freaking grows on ROCKS and should not be so easy to kill].

And then I thought, "No Kelli, put the Amex down. Give it a week or so and someone on Craftster will figure out a way to do this without you burning through your credit like you do your plant life."

So, thank you on behalf of my finances, my foliage and my expectations. These look great! And as a bonus, they'll give me something to do with all the old bottles I've collected over the years that my bf is currently nagging me about.  Grin

This is such a great idea. I have wanted to try making one of these too but I couldn't think of what to use. I will definitely be trying this, and if it works I will post my results.
