Tomorrow's my baby sister's 20th birthday!!
None of the family can believe that she's not a little girl anymore. Today I threw her a bit of a surprise birthday party, and made her a red velvet cake. She's been very much into wedding planning lately (as some girls do when they're in love, which she is), and so I made it tiered like a mini wedding cake. Thought she'd get a kick out of that.
Plus, it had to have strawberries on it, because she likes having strawberries at all of her birthdays. Her own little tradition I suppose.
This was a Martha Stewart recipe. I liked it, though I think I've made red velvets in the past that I liked better. I really wasn't a fan of the frosting, which made too much and was hard to work with. I won't use it again.
I'm a sucker for close-up pictures of food. And everything else. My micro option gets used a LOT on my camera.
And a tiny little slice from the tiny top cake on a tiny little plate.
Looking at the pictures, I'm a little disappointed. It looked better when not viewed through a camera. Still, it tasted good and sister of mine was very pleased.
Thanks for looking.
