Looks terrific! 

I like the resin idea, it would make it easier to keep clean, and give you a better surface to put things on. 
Also, I know it's too late for this table, but if you do another one, you could put sand in the bottom vase to give it more stability.

ooooo, for the top you could scout out yard sales for silver plate platters!
