If you haven't been to South Carolina, we love our state tree, the Palmetto, a bit too much..we put it on EVERYTHING....clothing, cars, shoes, flags, purses, mailboxes, etc. Our malls have stores dedicated to selling anything with the tree on it. Well this year in my room at school I had a huge blank wall because I was tired of the cheesy posters. So what else would I put there? I couldn't afford the flag (if you've been in college you know..) so I improvised...

Its made up of scrapbook paper on plain white poster board, and sealed with modgepodge. It took about a day off and on and I love it! I get many requests from friends to make them one.

Here is its size in relation to my stuff (don't mind my junk Wink).

Thanks for looking!!

that is one of the prettiest palmettos i have seen around!

i am a snowbird (or damn yankee, since i stayed!) but living in SC since 1996.

PS: your "junk" gave me an idea that i should paint some of those cube shelfs that i have around.  we have like 3 sets or something... boring white and wood-colored.

It was easy! Just time consuming. I blew up a pic of the tree and printed it out on multiple sheets, taped them together and traced it onto poster board. Then the rest is just tearing and pasting scrapbook paper on.

for those non-locals reading, a "palmetto bug" is just a glorified cucarracha. and by "glorified", i mean HUGE.

Super cute!

I'm a high-schooler in Columbia (I go to a Richland District 2 school), and we have an annual auction. One of the things they sell is metal palmetto trees that the various student groups decorated.

Great job, I live on Johns Island in South Carolina, just outside of Charleston.  I didn't realize there were so many locals on here.

I love the tree wall art and I love seeing all of these South Carolinians coming out of the woodwork! Definitely check out the local boards, a few out of the Columbia group have banded together and we get together to stitch every month or so!
