I made a dress from vegbee's lettuce t-shirt recon tut from here:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=151727.0

This is the first time I've used a knit fabric to make anything wearable.  It wasn't as scary as i imagined it to be.

Here is the finished project:

You can't tell from the picture but the design on the shirt is of 2 zebra's and 3 waterbuffalo at a watering hole.  The little one has dubbed it her Safari dress.

Wow, that looks great!  Do you have a serger or just a regular machine?  I'm asking because I'd love to try that and, though I've seen instructions for a regular sewing machine, I'm still nervous.  Please tell me it can be done!  :-)

i used a sewing machine to make this dress, just in like vegbee's tut.  The great thing about using an old tshirt to make this dress is that you will have some scraps of the tshirt material to practice on.  I did that a lot because i was nervous about the lettuce edging. Once i figured out the setting i liked best for my machine, and how much to pull, it was super easy!

Great!  Thanks, MrsBlocko.  I've been petrified to touch knit fabric, but all of the great projects around here are starting to give me the nerve to give it a try.   Smiley

I'm glad the tute was helpful!  Lettuce edging has to be one of my favorite techniques for knit - it looks good and is easy.  And my dd adores her knit dresses because they are so comfy (I mean, a big swingy tee shirt, who doesn't want to wear one?)

Super cute! Your tyke's adorable!! Thanks for the link, too....lettuce edging is my new best friend! It looks good on almost everything (for tykes....not so much on 40+ (gulp) y/o).
