I made this bag while learning zippers and using a new pattern.  I like the out come but my daughter informed me that it doesn't match well.

Oh well  here it is.

so Here is the second one I did.

its got a home to go to though. It matches a bag I made.
I do like the shape  and size of these.

what do you think?

OK  here  is the tutorial.  please show off your take on the bag or ask me anything, I will try to help.   Hope  this thing  makes  sense.  Huh Shocked Grin

Cosmetic bag tutorial

Ok  here we go.
You can you 2 or 3 different materials  if you choose. I only used 2 its entirely up to you.
And one zipper about 9 inches long.
If you print these two pictures fit to page on card stock you will be ready to cut them out to use for tracing.  Measurements are written on them just in case you wanna draw out your own or make sure they print to correct size.

Cut out all pieces.  And interface the ones you need to.

Ok take each side band and fold/ iron inch down along one long side (top side if printed material).

Place on one side of each main bag piece and stitch in place.

Do the same thing with side bands and side main pieces.  Hem and stitch in place.

Ok take loop piece. Fold and iron in half then tuck edges. Stitch it  closed.  Will look like this.

Now pin that to one side of main bag piece like this and stitch in place.

Whew all the tedious stuff is done now. Here comes the fun part.  Zipper!
Pin zipper to main fabric right sides together  and tack in place like this.  Leave inch  at each end unsewn (is that a word?? well it is today anyway LOL)

Now turn  and press.

Do other side same way so it will look like this.

I use a long zipper and trim later because I am zipper challenged and this works for me.  You can do it better I am sure. Anyway, now lets add the lining pieces. Do the same thing with lining pieces you just did but for the lining to look like this.
Pin and stitch  right side of lining to wrong side of zipper. Watching not to sew the main fabric out of place.  Also remember leave inch on each end NOT sewn!

Pin and sew to secure lining, zipper and main together.

Sew along raw edge and across zipper for your zipper stopper like so

Trim  extra zipper off.

Now pin one side piece to each end right sides together like this.  And sew  leaving inch NOT sewn.

Will look like this

Do same with lining  side pieces.

Now take one main piece and pin the side pieces to it like this (do NOT pin and sew lining in).

sew together. Be sure you go from zipper down.

Do the other main side to sides the same so it will look like this

Now flip it around and do the lining pieces the same way.

And here is what  you should have now

OPEN ZIPPER!

Okay pin  right sides together and sew bottom on main bag. Its easier to sew the long sides and then the short ones.  Bag will be inside out.
Now pin right sides together and sew bottom to lining.  Be sure you leave an opening  so you can turn it.

Turn, poke all corners out and close opening.

Ta dooo  you did it!

I like your bags. And as far as the fabrics matching, well everyone has different tastes. It would be a boring world if everyone liked the same thing. As long as you like it, thats the important thing. LOL.

Nice bags! I like the colours of the second one. Smiley
I think the designs of the first one kinda clash a bit.

But otherwise, they're really good!

These are so beautiful! I've been looking for the perfect make-uppy bag for ages, but after seeing these, I guess I'll better learn how to do zippers...

They look well constructed, and you did a good job! (even if the first one clashes a bit, there's nothing wrong with that!  It's nice to mismatch every now and again)

yes  this  bag is super easy!   and yes it is very firm and stands  nicely.
Believe it or not the way the zipper is done  on this is super easy. I normally don't do zippers  but this was easy.

I have to make more so I can make a tute if ya'll want.
