lino printing injury.....lol

so i decided i wanted to do some lino printing, ive had the tools for a while, ast time i did it i was 12, lol im 21 now......

so im carving away and my mom warns me not to hurt mysef... five mins later... bam smack into my index finger on my left hand.. im left handed... opened me right up and starts gushing blood.. i go icky from the smell and my mother a nurse in training freaks out... lol she cant handle her kids blood.. go figure...

and im back to carving my lino... wit a bandaided boo boo.. but im gunna hav a kickass lino print lol

wonder how well blood prints with ? lol kidding!!!

Awww, I totally feel your pain.  I've definitely lost a few chunks of fingers carving linoleum blocks.  Do you have a bench hook?  It's a z shaped piece of metal you can buy at craft stores that holds your block on the table, and you can just carve away without having to grip the block on all sides.

Yech. Once, during art class, my friend cut most of the top of her index finger off and completely removed the nail. I had to wrap her hand up in my school skirt and run her to the carpark and wait for an ambulance with her *literally* screaming for a good 40 minutes. Poor girl, her finger never grew back.

If the lino has you backing off, have you tried the soft block carving materials?  There are a few different kinds out there but none of them need the force that lino needs to carve.  I like SpeedyCut and use an exacto knife but a lot of folks thinks it's too dusty.  You can use the tools you already have on this stuff.

There is another material for block printing that is easier to carve than lino. It is made by the Staedtler Mars company, they make awesome erasers. The block looks like a giant piece of the eraser material, because it probably is... Google them.
