I finally got myself a proper sized ironing board and it failed. Specifically, the lever that released the lock came off and now the board won't go back down.

I didn't take a look at the underneath side before, so I don't know how it should go back together. I'm not mechanically oriented and the diagrams I found online did not help. I tried a few things that didn't work.

I'd like to at least figure out if this is fixable or something snapped and it's never going back down again of its own accord. It seems like it should be so simple to fix!

ideas?

you can't really see in the pic but the lever has a small 90 bend at the uncovered metal end.

I don't know where you are, but if it were me, I would take it to a Jo-Ann Fabrics or some kind of craft store then beg someone to help me.  Grin

Hey I ran into the same problem with the broken ironing board lever and fixed it.  Since NO ONE else out there was any source of help in any way (in fact it sort of pissed me off that one of the more common answers was to find a guy to do it, when I am one) I made my own site through yahoo to give  step-by-step process with pictures on how to fix broken levers.  It's definitely not the best website or the best photos, but fear not My ironing board has definitely been working ever since.

Hope it helps you, and anyone else who reads this page (since it it is one of the first pages listed in google result when you look up how to fix one of these locks).

Enjoy

I know this is an older post, but I came across it on a quick search to solve the same problem, and decided to share my solution with pictures in case someone else has the same issue.

Krystie, I don't have the problem your site solves, but I still wanted to thank you.  So often people don't think to post their solutions on-line, but if you have a problem, you can bet somewhere someone else has the same problem too!  So thanks.  Cheesy

This is actually much easier to fix than it seems!
See Krystie's link above. Or, check out this quick-howtofix-guide for the "ironing board broken lever" issue here:
