OOPS, I did it again.  Today is only Thrus NOT Fri.  I seriously need a mental heath day Roll Eyes

I have more super coils this week.  They are spun from scraps of commercial yarns.  At this point I have to restrain myself from coiling my entire stash!

Also check out some needle felted pattern binders I have been working on using some handspun yarns.

See more binders here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=237827.msg2610290#msg2610290

Woo, my first fiber friday AND my first handspun yarn!
I give you Kinky:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2087/2383925968_4f0c1ecc1f.jpg?v=0
No, I'm kidding. Those were only the first yards, I cut them out when I started getting better. Here's my baby, Dreadunzel, named by my friend because it looks so much like hair braids or dreadlocks, we couldn't decide:

The colour is exact in the pic of the singles and roving:

It's a chocolate brown corriedale, undyed, bought from My Special Tea on ebay. I got 3 oz, but because I cut out a little, I think i have 2,5oz. 73 meters after plying.
I have mixed feelings about it. On one side, it's mine! I did it! And it isn't horribly misshapen, in fact it's almost even, and perfectly balanced (beats me, I don't know how I did that).
On the other side, I hate brown. And it's bulky, when all I knit with is fingering and DK. And it doesn't have the pretty colours of brooklyntweed's yarns (http://www.flickr.com/photos/68971937@N00/1224862982/in/set-72157600481884907/) or the awesomeness of luffah's (http://www.flickr.com/photos/yarnzombie/2315953917/.
Yeah, talk about high expectations...

YAY it's FRIDAY!!!!!!  I am so excited because I don't have to work tomorrow.. we are starting house hunting since we just got pre approved for our first morgage Smiley  We are so  stoked!!

I have been pretty busy this week... Finished all the thank you notes and spun spun spun!!

The first is a set.  There are 2 skiens each of these.. and each is a scoche different..  I used the "mystery wrapped in a riddle" cuckoo batts from Art Club.  They were white based with rainbow colors.  My "suprise" add ins tucked inside(I got 2 batts) were a bag of rainbow mohair locks, and in the other one had some multicolored thread and two balls of firestar in greens and rainbow.  I didn't actually use the addins for these skiens.. I saved them for another project..
Everybody Loves Rainbows

Candy Land

With Everybody Loves Rainbows.. the top skien was spun a thick and thin single, and candystriped with a rainbow holographic thread and as well as I let a silver holographic thread wrap randomly

The bottom skien was spun a thick and thin single as well, then I let gold holographic and silver metallic thread wrap randomly

Candy Land was spun to as the "crazy" yarn for the set..  I'm on a real sparkley pom pom kick..

The top skien was spun thick thin, and wrapped randomly with a rainbow thread, then plied with beehives and sparkley pom poms around a black rayon thread.

The bottom skien was spun thick and thin, and randomly wrapped with a rainbow thread and a silver holographic thread, and then plied with beehives and sparkley poms around a black rayon thread.

The different threads wrapping gives each skien just enough difference from eachother..

This was my first yarn spun with buttons.  I really liked how it turned out.. however buttons don't fit thru my oriface, so I plied with my spindle.  It's the first time I've used my spindle since getting my wheel..  it was almost difficult getting back into the spindle groove..  once I did it was awesome and the yarn turned out great!  It's a mix of random "scrap" batts I got from my 1 lb fiber box from ArtClub.  It's a mix of browns, burgandys, greens, grays and some green mohair locks.  I added some copper angelina for super sparkle. It's plied with copper beads and buttons around a copper thread.
Odds and Ends

I crocheted it into a scarflette for my step mom as a thank you gift for throwing a wonderful shower for us.  She'll even get use it this season as it's still chilly in MN.

I reinforced the large green button to be used as the closure..  I love how it turned out...

I have a Loop bamboo batt on my bobbin right now in beautiful green and purple and purplish gray..  YAY!!

Happy Friday everyone!!

Oh, I've been away a bit.  But happy to be back at the wheel: here's a 4ply 50% swalesdale, 50% shetland (2 plies each).  These were badly over-dyed grey rovings (by me, some pH issues), but I love this yarn.  Which just goes to show you... bad rovings can make nice yarns.  Wink

http://pics.livejournal.com/astormorray/pic/0007a1yt
with a flash.  The twist hasn't been set yet, but it looks mostly alright.

http://pics.livejournal.com/astormorray/pic/0007cs9f
close up under natural light.

http://pics.livejournal.com/astormorray/pic/0007ds0f
and here are three of the four plies on the light of my life, my tensioned lazy kate.  The one on the left is the swalesdale, the other two are shetland.

And another thing I've been working on, after brushing the dust off the drum carder:

http://pics.livejournal.com/astormorray/pic/00078az1
It's 5.5 oz dyed targhee with 2 oz undyed targhee and about 2 oz grey angora.  I hope to start spinning that tomorrow.  Or maybe tonight?   Wink

Lovely yarns, as usual, everyone!  I love your scarflette, jazzturtle!

I've been on a spinning kick this week, though I'm much less on a taking-pictures-of-my-yarns kick.  I've got three unphotographed (4oz of South African Fine Wool from the Spunky Eclectic FOM club, 1oz of a "Goddess" batt from the Loop, and one 2oz skein of hand-dyed by moi mill ends).  That all being said, here is what I HAVE photographed:

"Cherry Cordial."  Hot pink was hand dyed by me, dark brown is a natural BFL:

AND "Autumn," from a hand dyed merion from mandalinn:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3169/2381351214_379bdb7d75_m.jpg

I actually got a third skein out of it, too, but that's been relocated to a happy home. Smiley

Can't wait to see everyone else's yarns!

Okay I have a ton of yarns to share this week. Most are for swaps but everyone already knows what they are getting so I can post.

The first is a spun DK weight fulled single from a batt called "Rose Garden" from Aspenmoonarts on etsy. It's Corriedale and glitz about 120 yards.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2026/2380372064_814e8bd1c2.jpg

The next two are from Spunky Eclectic's Fiber of the Month Club from October 2007. It's called Goblin eyes and its Romney wool.
First up is 85 yards 2 ply
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2056/2379535535_35b3746b06.jpg

And the second half of the roving was spun into an art yarn with beads and coils about 89 yards worsted/bulky
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2176/2382392343_399707d1f2.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2143/2382392383_682b85304d.jpg

The 4th yarn is from hand dyed/carded batts mixing wool top, mohair and BFL I call this "Into the Blue" 120 yards dk fulled singles

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2141/2380371760_a35e69df15.jpg

The 5th is from hand dyed combed top 70/30 wool top/mohair 90 yards worsted weight fulled singles. This is from my "Electric Razzberry" colorway

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3003/2380372652_7be7ce41c3.jpg

The 6th yarn is from Hanks in the Hood on etsy (I love her she has a fiber of the month club 60 bucks for a POUND of fiber for 3 months it's unbelievable)
"Raspberry Sorbet" spun from a 2 oz batt of 50 Alpaca 45 wool 5 mohair 100 yards 2 ply worsted
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2279/2384388454_5d219ee457.jpg
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2177/2384388940_4b2cddf460.jpg

And since I'm giving all this away I had to spin something for myself. Its sport weight 3 ply (Navajo plied) sock yarn a superwash nylon blend from my own Sock Batts 270 yards. (I still need to spin the nylon for the heels and toes)
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2205/2379535075_d041e1a551.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2087/2379535245_2cd224c498.jpg

Okay that's a lot of yarn I should give my wheel a rest now.

Those are beautiful! (Besides, there can't be anything wrong with a big pile of freshly dyed wool!)

Star217 - I love the "Raspberry Sorbet" (did you post it on Ravelry, too? It looks familiar but maybe I'm crazy).  I love Hanks in the Hood, too. I think that lb of fiber she sent me was the softest I've ever felt.

I love the collection of coordinating yarns, jazzturtle!  And the button yarn is fantastic!

I missed Fiber Friday last week because I seemed to have lost all sense of what day it is.  Anyway, here's Beachy Keen:

146 yards, 4 3/8 ounces.

And here's Dear Catastrophe Soy Silk, spun up from an absolute mess of roving:

149 yards, 3 5/8 ounces.

Also, some new handspun socks!  Yay!  This is from the navaho plied stuff I did a few weeks ago:

Jazzturtle, I LOVED the artclub batt I spun, I want to get more.
Star217, I thought about the hanks fiber club and for some reason I didn't do it, now maybe I will......

My yarn this week comes from last months fiber of the month swap. (April sign ups are open! come join the fun!!!!!)
I'm making a bike riding scarf for my husband. It needs to be warm and loud so people will see him- he normally wears black when he rides.

I was worried it was a little femmy as I was spinning it but it has come out nicely.
up close:

Now I'm torn what to start with next- some crazy lock yarn or soaker yarn? Because my son needs a handspun wool soaker and I just found a GREAT pattern........

Thats what I was going to say lapoli! He he ^-^

I didn't have much time this week to spin but I needed to make some doll hair specifically dread like, so I made some really funky yarn.

Here it is turned into dolly dreads.

The duck and I are rather sad it's not going to be staying here, but the doll that's getting them is keeping an eye on us.

Everyones yarns look great this week, as always!
Ekioart - those dreads look really neat!

I didn't get too much spinning done this week. I spent too much time dyeing and trying to spend more time with my boyfriend. This is all I've spun this week, from my "Violent Violet" dye job... hopefully I'll have more time to spin up the rest of it and make a 2ply for next week.

I can't figure out why I've started spinning so incredibly thin... I hope it doesnt break when plying.

On another note I've gotten lots of fun things in the mail from people on Etsy this week! I would like to play with them too and hopefully have some to show for next week.

Here are links to my dyeing projects from this week Cheesy

Hey all,

I have a few photos to share this week.

The Great Ice Storm - Merieno, silk, targhee, and *sparkle* I haven't measured yet. I'm pleased with how it turned out. So soft.

Here is a FO from my handspun. The yarn is spun from raw targhee. They are so warm.

And here is some mohair that I dyed. It should be spun up and ready to show by next week.

Until next week...

I know it isn't Friday anymore, but my first spinning class at the local weaver's guild was today, and we all got our own drop spindles and a small amount of undyed wool to get the feel of drafting.  So I spun and when I got home I wound it into a loose hank and dyed it with some sour green apple koolaid.  I found a needle felting kit at a local goodwill last week, and it had a bunch of roving in it, so I pulled the salmon out, since there was more of it than any other color, and I spun that with the little bit of leftover stuff from my class, into a sort of random peppermint twist thing, and plied it with the green.  I only have 10 yards, and I have NO idea what I'm going to do with it (although I have about 80 yards left of the green, I think, and more of the salmon roving, so we'll see).  But all in all, I'm really happy with it, and super excited, and I couldn't wait until next Friday to post it, so I figured I was close enough. ?  The colors aren't quite right because my scanner is weird.  The salmon is actually a little more pink, and the green is a little less yellow.  It's very springish.

Thanks!  I'm sure it's pretty obvious that it's my first yarn, but there's some satisfaction in that, anyway. Cheesy

I think it's very well done. My first yarn didn't look like that at all.

Thanks!  I'm addicted already.  I've been spinning random bits of roving and other stuff all day.  I even pulled out the bags of dog fur I've been saving from my shepherd mix's winter undercoat and spun some of it, even though it hasn't yet been washed or carded or anything, it's just bits of fluff.  But actually, once I spun and plied it with some pink wool thread I have, it looks really pretty, even though it's only about 3 yards.

That or looking at the clouds on a fluffy cloud day and wishing you could spin them. lol.

I've been spinning random bits of roving and other stuff all day.

I just got my drop spindle this morning and 3oz of roving to practice with.  The roving was pretty raw but I was literally spinning on and off for the entire afternoon under my desk at work!  I have about 3 skeins between 5 and 11 yards each in a couple of different colors.  I'm almost out of the roving I bought with the spindle already so had to rush online and order more straight away!  I'm sad I don't have a dog or rabbit to harvest fiber from.   Wink

I hope to have some pics to post for next week's Fiber Friday!
