a lady never reveals her underwear by mistake

I had the most fun with this challenge, thanks Craftster!!
Not only did i learn something, i have a new found respect for weavers...that is one time-consuming hobby!!!!

I came up with the design after my BF was moaning his desk was a mess...now he's got no excuses  Grin

first pic is the final product! - a waste paper bin /trash can but not just that...this one's guarded!!!

Here's my supplies:

I used:
1 large photo frame (£1)
1 small photo frame (2 for £1 - i will save the other for a rainy day!)
1 pack of disposeable BBQ skewars (£1)
2 balls of string (twinpack = £1)
1 bag of army men (£1)

Total = £5  (or $9.89)

From my stash, i used my hot glue gun and from my left shoe i took the shoe lace  Grin
(it seemed to fit the colour/theme soo well that i didnt mind the sacrifice!)

Here's what to do:

1. Mark out and drill the frame, make sure you use an odd number of skewars so you get an even weave:

2. Push skewars into holes and hot glue in place:

3. Weave the string through the skewars, pulling it slightly tighter as you go to create the shape, i left some evenly spaced gaps to create the design with the shoe lace:

(this was the most time consuming part...had no idea it would take soo long. Probably about 10 hrs!!)

4. When you get to the end push the small frame through from the inside so it sits on top of the last row:

5. Bind it into place then weave a couple more rows (i hot glued the base to secure it too). I also trimmed the skewars because they weren't all the same length - should have done that at the beginning Smiley :

6. Trim the backing from the pic frame to size and hot glued in place on the inside:

I then weaved (or wove!?!) the shoelace through the spaces i had left earlier and hot glued the men on to protect it!!!!

you can see the colour difference in the string - the 2 balls of string were in the same pack and looked identical until i started weaving!

I was thinking of painting it camo pattern...what do you think?

also, where i have glued the men on the top you gan see the excess glue poking out. any tips on how to get rid of it??

thanks for looking. comments appreciated  Grin

Woah - I have to say when I saw the first pic I also thought "oh, so she's glued some stuff to a waste basket, big deal!" How could I underestimate your crafty godliness... I am so sorry.

Completely bow to your patience, as someone who sucks at finishing anything that takes longer than an hour I salute you!!

Awesome garbage can... and such PATIENCE to weave all that twine into place. How does your BF like it?

To answer your questions:
1. If your BF wants it painted camo, by all means paint it. Smiley
2. To get rid of that excess glue, if you have a small exacto knife you can carefully cut it off (or even scissors).

Great job!!!

Some things are obviously crafted, and that's not a bad thing.  We like crafty!
But when you make something that *doesn't* look crafted...  You know, when your friends say... "You MADE that!?!?" it reflects a certain level of awesomeness!  Becs... this is awesomeness!!!!

I'm all about any project that involves men! Grin

This whole thing is cool, but I especially like the touch of the shoelace - perfect!

This project made me giggle, because it reminded me of the house we lived in when I was a kid. The family who'd lived there previously apparently had a couple of little boys who were rich in army men, because my parents would find them everywhere after we moved in, especially in the yard. So my dad, being the joker he is, would find fun places to put them. My mom remembers opening the freezer door to get something, only to have a tiny plastic man pointing a tiny plastic gun up at her face! Ah, the memories of childhood...

And even though everyone else has said it already, way to go on sticking with the project! Ten hours? That's insane! I hope your boyfriend appreciates this as much as the rest of us do. Smiley

But we have flamethrowers. And what this indicates to me, it means that at some point, some person said to himself, "Gee, I sure would like to set those people on fire over there. But I'm way too far away to get the job done. If only I had something that would throw flame on them."

try trimming the excess glue off CAREFULLY with an xacto knife or razor or hobby blade.  You did a fabulous weaving job and love the army men.  they really make it what it is.  i would also try the camo paint.
