I've had this dress for ages, I bought it on a whim from Cancer Research (a charity shop for those of you not from the UK, though I'm sure you figured that out yourself!) for a fiver, even though it was horrendously ugly, it just screamed 'potential alteration project' to me!

Seeing this challenge and having a hen party to go to next week with nothing to wear, I set about altering it.  The material is really stretchy which is great, it's so forgiving on your figure (hence the 'bum-tastic' title!), but at the same time, it didn't really fray, which I thought would be the main problem when I came to cut it up.

I cut off the batwing-style top and used a tutorial I found on Craftser to make the ruched top part.  I'm so pleased with how it turned out, I was going to give it a halter neck but I really like it just the way it is! Smiley

Please excuse the before photos, I was slightly pissed whilst taking them *hangs head*

BEFORE

AFTER

I was proud of my first attempt at rouching, so it gets its own photo:

The amazing label on the inside, although looking at it, I hope I haven't cut up a priceless vintage dress, however hideous it was to begin with!

It looks much better in real life, I'm not the most photogenic person in the world!

Thank you so much!  I'm always slightly worried about posting pictures of myself wearing things I've made on the internet, in case I mistakenly think they're amazing and everyone else thinks they're hideous!

Still, I love how much this dress makes me love my bum, so it's totally worth it just for that! Smiley

What a great transformation!  I'm always buying ugly clothes in hopes of making something beautiful out of them, and I rarely succeed.   Wink

Ain't that the truth, I've got a huge pile of clothes waiting to be transformed and another equally huge pile of 'transformed' clothes waiting to be taken apart again or shredded since I ruined them!

YAY for Cancer Research!

I love this dress! I loved it before you transformed it too. Is this wrong?

I quite liked it before hand as well, it was one of those, 'could I wear it in an ugly-yet-ironic way?' type moments!  I think if I wasn't a bit of a short-and-not-terribly-elegant type, I might have been able to get away with it, but sadly I have a lot of growing to do before I make it to Kate Moss status *sigh* She could have worn it as it was before I cut it up, that's for sure!

That's pretty darn awesome. It looks great!
Also, I googled Sonia Fares, and this is what Wikipedia says:
Sonia Fares is a fashion designer and former Miss Lebanon. She is known for her residence, which she calls the "Free Republic of 69" in the Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine.
So there's no need to feel bad!

Thank god for that, for a second there I thought you were going to tell me it would have been worth hundreds before I cut it up!
