Necklace Organizer, White Crane Style

First off, the idea of making a jewelry organizer from a picture frame is not new.  I most recently saw it posted on Craftzine, from this blog, http://daisyjanie.typepad.com/daisyjanie/2008/01/how-to-jewelry.html.  My necklaces have been crying out for one for a while, so this challenge was a good motivation for me to put my own spin on that idea.

Here's what I came up with:



The Making of...

From the "99 Cents Only" store I bought a wide photo frame, three packages of meat skewers, and some printer paper (not shown).  Total $5



I removed the glass from the frame, and covered the cardboard backing with a fabric scrap I had, a white crane print.  I also re-painted the frame white, as it was showing some dollar store wear and tear.



I cut up the printer paper into little squares, and then folded it into tiny origami cranes.  I used Mod Podge on the cranes for durability and shine.



I stuck the skewers through the cranes, then pushed the skewers through the cardboard, and folded down the ends of the skewers and taped them down for safety.

Okay, that's really cool.  I love the tiny little origami cranes!

Wow! I interrupted my husband (who was working) to show him how beautiful this is! This is my favorite thing about the dollar store challenges and swaps -- when people as talented as you make something so beautiful out of so little.

That is an absolutely brilliant idea and i love it. I've had these really gaudy frames from the dollerstore around for a while, and no place to put my vast growing collection of necklaces... I smell essay writing procrastination coming on.
