Hi, I'm a fairly new knitter and I'm more than half-way through the Alien Illusion Scarf as a gift for my daughter for next Christmas. I knitted it in an acrylic yarn because she is the kind of person who will most likely leave it on the floor of her car until something spills on it and then need to wash it. If I steam block it (kill the acrylic) will I lose the illusion? It's not curling that horribly now and it's quite soft - should I just let it be?

Well I have always heard that you cannot block items made in acrylic yarn.  Before I knew that, I tried to steam block acrylic things I made, and I didn't notice any difference in how the yarn or pattern looked.  Granted, it's not the same thing as the optical illusion you're talking about, but if I had to guess I'd think it wouldn't matter.

You could always forgo the blocking, or (I know it's a pain) make a block of just one alien face and try blocking it to see.

did you wash it with fabric softener? Maybe that resolves it, whenever i do something in acrylic it looks weird until it's washed... I don't know why but for some reason it works...

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the goal to arrive safe and sound in an attractive and well preserved body but rather skit in sideways, Chardonnay in one and Strawberries in the other hand, the body completely wrecked and used and at the same time cheering WOW, what a ride
