I'm going to a conference in March in Salt Lake City and Snowbird.  In Salt Lake I'll be staying at the Hilton downtown (I guess near Temple Square).  Anyway, I'm sure there will be SOME downtime between talks, and I was wondering if there are any yarn stores or other neato places I should see that I can get to and from in under an hour with no car?
I realize that Snowbird is less likely, being a ski resort and all, but I still have hope.....

Yeah, I'm thinking your options at Snowbird will be pretty limited.  But there is a yarn store right near where you're staying.

Black Sheep Wool Company
430 E South Temple
SALT LAKE CITY,  UT 84111 - 1337
(801) 487-9378

That is definately in walking distance. Salt Lake can be a little disorienting if you've never been there before, so I'd just ask the concierge how to get to that address and they can point you in the right direction. I'd say you're staying about 4/5 blocks from that address. I have yet to actually go to Black Sheep, but I hear it's a really nice store.

As for other stores?  You could search dexonline.com, but without a car, I'm not sure if you could get to the other yarn stores I know in less than an hour.
Hope that helps!

melidomi, did you get a chance to visit Black Sheep?  It is my favorite yarn store in Salt Lake (and I love the bakery that's right next-door).  The three other yarn stores in Salt Lake are quite a bit further South, about a 20 minute drive from the downtown area for the two on 33rd and at least 40 minutes for the one on 92nd - for anyone who is interested.
