These are large illustration pieces that I created during my final year at uni. Granted that was a while ago now, but I've just resiscoverd the photo's I had taken of them. I don't think I've ever posted this and it's one of my favourite works.

It was an open project and I decided on a set of illustration for the human body which could work individualy or as a whole piece. I based each piece on whatever was interesting me at the time. For my exhibition all of the boxes were mounted together and back-lit so that the x-rays showed up.

I was so sad to dismantle it, but hey, I have the photo's and I have been able to recycle the parts into other artworks. Which is something else I love to do, like a continuously evolving art piece.

Anyway, on to the photo's!

Experimentation:

Sight Touch Taste:

Investigation:

Sex & Marriage:

The Criminal Mind:

The Perfect Body?:

Working process:

Beauty:

Creation:

Let me know if you'd like any details about any of them!

These are really cool Phizzy - I think I can picture how they would look lit. I especially like 'The Criminal Mind' and 'Experimentaion'. Shame you had to dismantle them, but hey, like you said, it's evolving art.

Thank you!

These are photo's of photo's since the originals weren't digital and I haven't got around to getting the negatives onto disc, so I hope they're clear enough to make out some of the details.

The criminal mind brain was a series of semi-clear images layered so it looked 3d. Sadly I don't think that comes across in the photo.

I love experimentation too, I have the girl and glass tube on my lounge shelving Cheesy

Wow Phizzy, these are great!
I love all the textures and layers and all the great images and x-rays you used. I agree, it is too bad you had to disassemble these because they look so great but at least you were able to re-use some of the items elsewhere.

I myself would love to get my hands on some old x-rays and be able to use them in some artwork. You've just gone and re-fueled that desire.

Thank you!

I just asked at my local hospital and they were happy to help. They only hang on to them for so many years and then they're destroyed. Took me a while to cut all the names off them though at the hospital before I could take them though! Cheesy

I have 2 recent ones of my spine that I'd like to use somehow. Smiley

When my mum broke her ankle whilst on holiday in Orkney last year and she said she was given copies of her x-rays I thought "cool I could use tham for something if she doesnt want them" - no such luck though, as the hospital gave them to her on a CD-Rom!

Oh, that's such a shame!

Would it work if you printed from the CD onto acetate?
