you need:

fabric
bias tape
clear vinyl
invisible thread (home dec thickness)
embroidery floss

that's it.
i actually made a few prototypes out of paper before stitching this together..
a xmas present for the boy.

the embroidery is a fluffy-fishstick thing from Don Hertzfeldt's "Rejected"

I love you. And not, not in a friendly way, although I think we're great friends. And not in a misplaced affection, puppy-dog way, although I'm sure that's what you'll call it. I love you. Very, very simple, very truly. You are the epitome of everything I have ever looked for in another human being.

Oh!
I want to eat that fuzzy little fishstick, then spit him out
because I love him so much!  He loves me, too.  See, he
wants to give me a hug.  That is really cute, and very
professional looking!

I totally just went through a wallet disaster which result in 1001 sailor worthy words and a garbage bin full of vinyl and felt. That said, I applaud your wonderful work. It's a fantastic wallet!

I don't need a baby growing inside me for nine months. For one thing, there's morning sickness. If I'm going to feel nauseous and achy when I wake up, I want to achieve that state the old fashioned way: getting good and drunk the night before.

Hi. I am new here, so I realize this is an old post, but I love the fuzzy thing wallet. I also wanted to share my own "Rejected" project:

It was pretty fun, and easy since the foam kept the material stable.
I'm still learning...

How to Make One Yourself!

You will need:

3/16 yd medium gauge vinyl
1-  7 1/4" x 6 3/4" piece
1-  4" x 2 3/4" piece

1 package double fold bias tape
2-  7 1/4" pieces
1-  2 3/4" piece
1-  28" piece

5/16 yd fabric (cotton is fine)
1-  16" x 7 1/4" piece
1-  37 1/4" x 2 3/4" piece

*Tips for Sewing Vinyl*
  • Use home dec weight invisible thread.
  • Don't backstitch. Instead, use a tiny stitch length just at the start and end.
  • Never use pins on vinyl. Use weights if you have to.
  • Tissue paper will prevent the vinyl from sticking to your machine. Carefully tear the paper from the seams when done sewing.

Here is a little key for my very sad sketches:

1. Embroider your design, and fold as shown. Sew a 7 1/4" piece of bias tape over the fold, then fold again. This gives extra strength to the bill-pocket, and covers the back of your embroidery.

2. Sew the 2 3/4" piece of bias tape to the smalll vinyl window.

Pleat the long fabric stip into pockets, accordian-style. If you fold accurately, you should be able to get 5 pockets, instead of the 4 I got. I don't know how that happened.

Assemble the pockets under the small vinyl window, but do not sew yet.

3. Place the pocket assemblage on the wallet as shown. Remember, your embroidery part is already folded over at the top. Sew a 7 1/4" piece of bias tape over the lower edge of the pockets/fabric. Then fold it over, as you did the top part.

4. Place the large piece of vinyl on the wallet, and bind all four edges with the long bias tape strip. Sew through all layers, and miter corners as needed. Fold in half for the finished outside.

5. Yes! You are a consumer whore!

Feel free to smack me if that was totally confusing.  Smiley
