I re-adopt Lucille every year as my x-mas present to myself.
Can't join the swap, but I look forward to the gallery!

What are you favorite things about manatees?  First memories?

I liked them a lot as a child, but I can't pinpoint exactly why.  I did have a favorite song that involved them though, which was by this husband and wife hippie couple who sang lots of songs about recycling and saving the planet etc.  When I first saw a real life manatee at Sea World, I came into the exhibit just in time to see the feeding, and I was blown away by those massive creatures gently massacring a few dozen heads of lettuce.  I like how contradictory manatees are, so graceful but ridiculous and awkward, so gentle despite their intimidating size, and so humorous yet so sad...

manatee bop totally made me laugh out loud.

chilledsoup-it's probably too personal, but my mommy used to call me her baby manatee whenever i would try to crawl up into her lap because i was chubby, and i've always had this anxiety disorder and have had scars and stuff all over my legs, so i think i've always sort of though of myself as a manatee....if that makes sense.

long live the manatee!

that video was amazing! ahh!! it's SO much cuter than a dolphin or octupus, i don't know what they're talking about.
ok so i have admit that my most favorite is the platypus, but the manatee is a cousin so it's got my heat as well Smiley i'm already thinking of interesting crafts to make, manatees are the bestest.

My husband has the "Huge Manatee" thing on his office door.
I am in Aust and have loved dugongs for years. At one stage I was a volunteer museum guide and I always loved to visit the Dugongs and talk about them to visitors. So sweet. Cheesy

Awww that and the manatee nose bump are the cutest images I've gotten in a long time.  I tried to google a picture of a baby in a manatee costume, but no luck!  I was hoping I'd find something like this picture: http://kecute.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/baby-lobster.jpg

haha.  baby lobster!

I don't know how i got into manatees.  I know it was in high school.  Probably my senior year.  I've just always love them.  My mom and I went to homassasa springs in Floridia where the manatee are.  I'll have to post some pics of that.

My boyfriend adopted Betsy off of the save the manatee website last November here's her description:
BETSY was named after Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park Ranger Betsy Dearth. She is very friendly and curious and is quick to investigate anything new. Ranger Dearth calls her, "the inspector."

hah.  ^_^
