My friend is obsessed with hat that have animals on them. He has an owl, penguin, and puppy. I felt like he needed more. Thus, the chicken hat was born! I based the look of it off of his owl hat (i.e. the way the eyes and mouth looked), but the chicken design was all mine.

The front of the hat. The eyes and the red top had to be sewn on. I discovered that felt doesn't stay glued together very well.

Me modeling the hat. There are also pom-poms that you can't see in the picture.

Pattern: Slightly modified Basic Earflap Hat from Hey Julie

Yarn: Red Heart Soft Yarn in White

The hardest part to make was the red thing on top (I don't know the name of it). It was two separate pieces sewn together and popping them inside out was nearly impossible.
Overall, it took about 3 weeks because I kept forgetting materials at my house, but the actually time spent on it was about 6 hours max. He loves that hat, though! I was very tempted to keep it for myself  Grin

So cute! The flappy thing on top is called a comb, it may have a more technical term though, I don't know...
I love the face, great chicken-y expression!
