Reader's Digest Craft & Hobbies - Book Review
«
on:

This is the coolest book. It has instructions for just about every traditional craft or art medium there is.
It is dated 1979 and it is by Reader's Digest. I swear it is like a bible for crafters.

Just bought that exact book at Goodwill for $1.99! What a deal....it DOES have just about everything in it. I also have an old Reader's Digest book of home improvements that has been a godsend more than once and helped me save tons of moolah over the years. It also taught my son how to be a fantastic handyman, also saving me tons of moolah over the years. It would pay anyone to keep an eye out for them at thrift stores and yard sales.

I have this book! I stole it from my mom a long time ago. She told me I couldn't have it, and I said, sorry Mom, I'm taking it anyway! I don't think she minds anymore because I get so much use out of it so much more often than she used to.
I love that there is such a broad and in-depth amount of information on each topic. I love this book!

I'm glad to see so many people already enjoying this book. I just picked this up recently and have already used it for a couple of items that I made and for some gardening tips.

Readers Digest craft books are awesome. I have a few of them and they rock my socks off. My only problem with this book is they didn't include soapmaking.

Wow! You're right. But they did include some very obscure crafts, like how to bonsai a tree.
what other books should I be on the lookout for?

My mom has had that book for as long as I can remember! I had forgotten about it though. I'm gonna have to go "borrow" it! Thanks for the reminder!

I hope you can find it. I found this copy at a second hand store that was so crammed full of stuff, I don't think the old guy even knows what he's got.
I don't know if it's being sold as new anywhere. Maybe on Amazon.com.

Here is another one to look out for. I've owned it for 20+ years but I know I've seen is at thrift stores and garage sales. I also had one in the same style for home repair that was excellent. Unfortunately I lent it out and it has never been returned.

I have had the complete guide to needlework for several years and it is my ultimate go-to book for needlework. I didn't know about the crafts and hobbies one until last week when I read about it here, and wished I could find on for my library. Then guess what happened!! On Friday I was at an antique mall and it called my name!! It was sitting on a bottom shelf all lonely and afraid, so of course I had to bring it home and give it a good home with its sibling book! It has some great stuff in it!

I'll have to have a look for this book. Incidently I have "borrowed" the RD Farmhouse cookery book (I've found my own copy since) and it's my cooking bible I use it all the time you can't beat the Reader's Digest

Ok, now I have to find the Farmhouse cookery book. I've been reading the RD book called Homemade, and I've decided that I need to own it.

I have this book! I found it at a garage sale for $1! It's amazingly useful!
I also have Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Sewing from 1976 and Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Needlework from 1979, both of which were also bought at another garage sale (these two at the same sale) for $1 each! Both of these are also immensely useful and I've recently taught myself embroidery using the Needlework book!
