I am a woman and my husband is not really crafty (he's artsy, and he draws in the computer and on paper, but he's just not all that into the HAND part of handcrafts).

And i'm a total n00b here, so just ignore me if this is out of line or i am being nosy...

BUT, regardless,

I noticed there is a very small minority of men here.  Whereas really, historically, crafts are for everyone...

So i wondered, do the guys feel left out among all us women, and what if there were a forum for them specially?  Would that be a good development to craftster?

I don't even know what MEN'S ISSUES would be in a crafting context, but maybe the guys could help out with that idea.  Like, i know my parents always did a lot of different handcrafts together, and my father often had trouble with things that were not designed for his large carpenter's hands.  But this would not even apply to all men, and would apply to some women, too.  But there must be other stuff.

Well, it is just an idea.

Just wondered if there was any scope for a specific board for men to share their stuff on..?
Clearly we are happy to mix it up with the girls, but it might be nice to showcase man craft stuff as well - particularly in some of the more unorthodox categories.
Maybe..?

There isn't currently a "man section," but we definitely would like men to post in the main boards with all of the other crafts.  Almost all crafts will fit in a board that is already established.  I don't think there is really a need to segregate due to gender here. Smiley  Crafts are crafts regardless of who made them -- bring 'em on! Smiley

Maybe there doesn't need to be a specific craft board for me, but what about at least a discussion board... somewhere? Just a place for all those crafty dudes to create a sense of community. Because we have to admit this is a pretty girl-centric community, for the most part.

Why not jump in on the discussions already running on all of the Discussions and Questions boards, though?  They are all craft-related and that's what everyone is here for, I think.

Edit:  I do like the idea of a Boy's/Men's clothing section because it's very specific tailoring such as the Children's and Curvaceous Clothing sections http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=256294.0  Other than that, I don't see why males can't post with all of the other wonderful crafts! True... but I know if I was a guy crafter I think I would feel a little bit out of place in much of the site. It would be really awesome to increase the male population here since I personally know a lot of men that do some kind of crafting, but I highly doubt any of them would make an appearance unless there were other visible men doing it too.

But then, I might be totally off base because my husband just said if he were a crafter, he wouldn't be shy about posting in a mostly female community, heh.

I'll be honest, I like hanging out with the girls. Sometimes a little too much for my wife's liking...

I was thinking it could be a bit like in department stores where they sometimes have an oasis for men in the middle of the women's wear section with some comfy chairs and a few car magazines. It could just be somewhere for men to congratulate each other on their crafts in manly ways, and for the girls to observe from a safe distance...  Grin

Haha!  You're too funny. Cheesy

The thing is, we don't really have an "off-topic" area for any of the boards.  And if we wanted to make a specific men's section for each current category board on Craftster, well, we would double in size.

I really hope you feel welcome to post on all of the boards, though.  I'm sure it's hard to see from my point of view, but I don't feel like any of them have signs on them that say, "Women only." Cheesy

True nuff. Smiley

I think it would be good to find a way to attract more male crafters here though. I haven't the foggiest how though lol
