Tutorial - Mei Tai

Hi there!  I'm new and thought I would share a Mei Tai tutorial that I have made previously.  I called them "Stacy's Stylin' Mei Tai's" when I sold them.  This is a .pdf file, so you will need Adobe Reader to see it.  It is picture heavy so have patience while it loads.

The fabric is lovely. This looks like a great baby carrier, but you must have very strong shoulders to carry around that rather large child. He looks quite heavy, but what lovely blond hair!

The decorative fabrics here are silk, which is my favorite way of making them.

Thanks! He actually was around 30 lbs in that picture.  It is hard to do a front carry, but a back carry is much easier when they weigh that much.  I also make my carriers with foam around the shoulder area to make them more comfortable to carry the weight.

I just looked at the pdf.... what's the cording for???  I've never seen that on a mei tai before.

I'm not sure what you are asking here.  I have pictures above of the back and front carry.  Are you looking for how the straps are placed?  I criss-cross the straps across by back/front and tie underneath their bum.

I just looked at the pdf.... what's the cording for???  I've never seen that on a mei tai before.

The cording is inserted in the bottom strap and used to cinch it up if it is too wide for a smaller baby, or if they want to face forward in a front carry.  I didn't really use it much, but I had put it in all my Mei Tai's.  If you wanted to leave it off, I'm sure you wouldn't miss it much.

that's the beauty of a properly made meitai, the weight is actually carried on your hips. the shoulder straps are there for stability.
