So a group of crafters I know all got together (via web) and decided to make something featuring tulips in our respective mediums -- since I wasn't pulling together a darn quilt for the event, I went for a bag.  Here she is!

And a close up on the applique -- I love me some metallic threads and tartan:

I just love the inside of this bag though -- it has one interior zip pocket that I lined in this funky pink jersey with these holographic bubbles on it.

But the best part is this thing, a zip-off zip-top pouch in the interior! It's a purple cotton velvet, and the top of it is the same Strawberry Shortcake fabric I used to line the bag:

I can't believe all bags don't have this thing.  I put one half of a separating zipper near the top of the inside of the bag, and attached the other half to a tab on the pouch to make it so that it can be zipped in and out of the bag -- keeps all yer crafty good stuff separate from your gum wrappers, lip balm and the fabric store receipts you're hiding from your husband Grin

Comments and constructive criticisms are welcome and appreciated as always!  Thank you for looking!

I love that bag.  It is seriously AWESOME! I want to know where you found the tartan, though, because I was at JoAnn's a couple of weeks ago and all they had was the homespun collection...I really want a green tartan for the trim on my husband's bondage pants...

Well, what a great idea!  I love the idea of zippering a smaller bag into the larger bag! Why, that would be great for unzippering out of a purse & zippering into a brief case/lap top bag...with the wallet & lipstik in it!

Thanks for the idea & thanks for sharing!

Thank you all for the nice words Cheesy

Ugh, sorry, I wish I had better news for you -- my MIL is a kiltmaker and so I get all my tartan in scraps from her, and hers is the $80/yard proper wool stuff.  That pink and purple is a real honest-to-goodness dress clan tartan if you can believe it, Dress Gordon of Abergeldie.  Cotton tartans aren't easy to find -- I know any number of dancers wanting to make their National outfits from cotton tartan and they basically can't find it. Have you tried re-conning something from a thrift store?  there should be oodles of discarded grunge era plaid shirts still around Smiley

I think I may end up having to thrift for it...wool would be fine, if only I could find it...It's the print I want, and the homespuns just aren't quite right

Is there a particular tartan you're looking for?  I'd be happy to send you some scraps -- although this stuff really ends up looking kind of dingy after a bunch of machine washes (it felts up a bit).   All my pieces are about 3-4 inches long and about 3 inches wide.

LMK!
