~ Tie-Dye & Black Panel Twirl T-shirt skirt ~

This is a skirt right out of Generation T, by Megan Nicolay. I forget the exact name, but I'm going to call the pattern "The Twirl Skirt".

I finished this last night, but I'm mainly having a problem with the hemline here. I realize that in the above photo, it looks flippin' sweet, like insect wings or something, but on, it looks a little odd. At least from my perspective, looking down from up above.  The unevenness of the hem doesn't look intentional or something. I am thinking about either evening the hem up, so it's flouncy, but all falls to the same line, or doing....... something else to it. I'm not sure!

Do you have any ideas? I want to make this skirt really neat. I have at my disposal: Bleach stenciling skillz, scissors, and a sewing machine and serger.

There, you see that? I don't fancy that hemline. It just falls too.... oddly?  I dunno.

You could trim it so the points are sharper, i.e. the skirt is more square shaped when spread out flat.   You could try adding some type of trim or binding to the hem, that might help it hang better.  Stretchy material tends to roll when it's left unhemmed, so that might be the problem you are experiencing.

Hey, thanks for your ideas! The rolling of the jersey fabric doesn't bother me, and the idea of making it pointy isn't appealing to me. Hmm.  I wonder what it would look like with some of that hem binding stuff I saw in the store. I'm thinking that that would probably be visible on the front side? You can see the inside of the hem fairly often when wearing this, particularly when sitting down. >_<

It's the big scalloping that I'm not really liking. Maybe I should whack it off, lol.  XD

Have someone cut it while you are wearing for the best hemline... it will be cut specifically for you and fit your figure well... very cute..

Oooh!  Do you like flouncy?  You could sew some elastic to the bottom of each seam to gather it up a bit, making the curved bits flounce.  You could also just do this to one panel, and even up the rest, and make it a bustle-style skirt.  I've got bustles on the brain, hence the idea, but it'd be super cute!

I like it as is .. but if you want it to look more intentional id make a simple tube out of black and trim the whole bottom .. I think it might tie it together a lil more

You could try to fold it like you're making a circle skirt.. .and cut accordingly. Just make the back part a little longer.
