Wow, you guys! Thank you! I'm happy that you liked it!
And my friend LOVED it!
I made up the pattern as I went.
I'll try my best to write it up for you guys.
(I've never written out a patern before

)
Here we go!
Materials:
-Caron One Pound (it's what I used, but you surely won't use all the yarn)
-US 9 16 inch circular
-US 15 16 inch circular
-yogurt container, iron and an old pillowcase
(or even easier, buy a cheap brimmed beanie at the store and rip out the plastic bill. This is what I recommend)
Gauge: US 9 (single stranded, STst) 4 sts/inch
US 15 (double stranded, Seed st) 2 sts/inch
With smaller needles, CO 88 sts. Join into round.
Place marker. Work STst for 5 inches.
Starting at the marker, join yarn from the other end of the skein, (k2tog, p2tog)around, using the bigger needle
(So basically, you're transfering needles, starting the seed st pattern, decreasing and joining a new strand at the same time.) Hang in there!
This can be tricky, you can use a crochet hook to pull the stitch through and place it on the big needle.
When you come back to the marker, you should have 44 sts on your US 15 needle. Continue in seed st, remembering to work the double strands as one.
When the seed st body measures about 10 inches, you'll need to decrease 44 into 22.
I just passed every purl st over the knit st. all around
This round is not knitted at all, just slipped and passed over
Now to finish it off, leave a long tail and thread it through the live sts, just like a normal beanie. Ta-Da! Now you have what looks like a beanie for paul bunyan.
Now you just fold the brim, placing the plastic bill inside and sew all around.
Remember to sew right under the roll of the STst. It should meet with the seed stitch on the other side. Weave in your ends. Now go to the beach and look fab.
To make your own bill: set your iron on a medum-low setting. With scissors, cut the yogurt container so it becomes a rectangle. Place the sheet under an old pillowcase, just in case. Test a little corner first to make sure it's not totally melting. The plastic should feel very warm to the touch, it shouldn't burn you.
Now when it's the right temperature, guide the iron over the pillowcase a couple times. It should be done when the plastic sheet has a slight curve, and it'll be more pliable. Now trace with a sharpie a really wide kool-aid smile. Or trace a hate you already have, like I did. cut out with scissors and sew into your hat!
I hope it was clear. If anyone has any questions at all, please ask!
I'd love to see pictures of the finished product
