My Granny taught my how to do this when I was 8 she must have been about 88 then (so maybe she learnt it from something like this).  I think I was getting under her feet too much so she went off to her shed and created one for me.  We call it French Knitting but I dont know if that is really correct.  I never made a necklace from it though.  I should try it she would be amused to hear I still have the 'apparatus' she made for me.  Thanks for sharing!

I make wire chains on a spool just like this.  I have them in 3, 4 and 5 peg.

I actually have never tried using yarn...that's too easy!LOL!  I have to do the hard stuff.
