I've been attempting to gain some control over my yarn stash, and use up some of my fabric stash, so I've been experimenting with different methods of constructing fabric boxes.

These are addicting and very satisfying projects.  I will definitely be making more...

WOW.  what a great timing...

i was just trying to figure out how to make boxes today, because indestructible/pretty storage things are so expensive.

i want to make mine out of those plastic table cloths with the fuzzy on the back, just because it comes in fun prints and it seems like it would make good boxes.

it was a semi-failure, so far.  i got bogged down with making a frame from coat hangers and trying to line it with old shopping bags.  i think the lining was a mistake, and i should just make them double-sided out of table cloth without a frame ... it's cheap enough at $2 - $2.50 or so for one large rectangular cloth...  do you think they would stand up with no frame?

Thanks everyone!  When I make the next one (and there will be more...) I'll take pictures along the way.

For all 3 of these the sides are made with a piece of corrugated plastic in between the outer and inner fabrics.  The corrugated plastic was the backing for a set of Ikea shelves.  I never liked the idea of a white plastic back on my bookshelves, so I saved the plastic thinking I could use it some day...  So glad I did!

Alternately, you could use regular cardboard, but you would have to be careful about moisture.  I have used plastic needlework canvas for the bottom of purses, I think that might be a good alternative also.

Oh I love this.  I am just in the process of organizing a new crafting space.  I like esp the first picture and the way it's made.  Can I ask?  Just how big can one make this type of storage box? Love it!!! Grin

I am a box junkie to say the least - I just love them and can't seem to get enough of them!  I will definitely give your box a go once I see your tutorial posted.
