I've got some Patons Classic Wool Merino in Winter White that I'd like to dye with coffee. This is going to be my first dyeing experiment, so I've got a question or two....

I'm using this book http://www.amazon.com/Readers-Digest-Back-Basics-Traditional/dp/B000Z2NUVO/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205593481&sr=1-19 as a guide and it says to use unmordanted wool when you're dyeing with coffee. If I'm using a store bought yarn, does that mean its already been mordanted?

The details on the yarn are 100% Pure New Wool, hand wash, dry flat, and its 3 1/2 oz / 100 g to a skein and I've got two skeins to dye. I've got quite a bit of stale coffee grounds. Do the dyeing properties of coffee change with its age? The grounds I've got are 1-2 years old.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't dyed with coffee so I don't know about the second question, but about the mordant. No, the yarn is not already mordant-ed. There are different mordants you use that give you different colors when working with natural dyes. It is not something the yarn "comes with".

Goodbye Tucson! I will miss how everything dried so quickly!

Thanks, hoxierice. I'm going to try to dye it tomorrow.  Smiley
