I started to make these items for my baby that just started crawling about a month ago to help keep her knees from getting rough and raw from the carpets and flooring.

Get some knee high (or mid calf) length adult socks.  Leaving the top rib (see picture).  Cut the sock right about the heel.  So now you have 2 pieces.  Now cut just below the heel, and just above the toe (you are cutting the instep out).  You can trash the cut out heel and toe.  Now, fold the instep in half, this is your bottom rib.  You can take an extra step which follows: before folding the instep for the bottom rib, you can cut the instep and take out a piece so that the bottom ribbing is a little smaller than it would otherwise me.  Sew the instep back into a circle.  This is useful if your baby is a skinny-minnie like mine (she's under 18 lb at 1 year).
Fold the instep in half, right side out.  Place the instep/cuff over the cut end of the leg tube.  Sew the two pieces together so that when you flip the instep cuff down, the sewn edge is inside.  Super simple.
