My mom and I are helping to decorate for my little sister's big 8th grade graduation dance.  The theme is the rainforest, and we're mostly in charge of covering these half walls that are throughout the cafeteria.  We're thinking lots of lush greens and ferns.  We're also planning on making giant big flowers out of metal clothes hangers and bright fabrics.   Not sure what the budget is yet, but we'll have some money.  I'll post pictures as we go along, but I thought my wonderful fellow craftsters might have some valuable ideas for us!  Thanks in advance!  Smiley

That is such an awesome theme for a school function! Have you thought about having any water feature...even if it is fake. There are always rivers, brooks, and streams running through the rain forest. So if you made a water feature you could have a whole river rock setup. Maybe on one side of the cafeteria or on the stage (my middle and high school had a stage in the cafeteria). You could also use rainforest animals hidden throughout. Like parrots and monkeys. Good luck!!

Don't forget bugs (especially butterflies) you could make em or maybe just get plastic ones from the dollar store.  Mybe on higher walls you could hang netting (like camo or something) and attach vines/leaves and bugs too.

Great ideas!  We are playing on having some sort of water feature... probably some sort of fake waterfall.  I hadn't thought about the butterflies or animals, that's a really good idea.  The netting's brilliant too, my part of the decorating committee has a couple walls to cover.  Thanks!

Update:  We've begun to create things to decorate the walls!  We've got vines, butterflies and flowers.  I made tutorials for the butterfly and flowers here: Rainforest Crafts! Tutorials for Flowers, Butterfly (MANY PICTURES)

Thanks for reminding me!  I have a bunch that I took before the kids arrived, I'll try to get them up soon.  I'm pretty busy the next couple of days, so hopefully I'll remember!
