Patiala Salwar for my darling - Oh my god she is so cute. May be it looks like i am boasting or going overboard, i really really feel is she is so cute in this dress. This is one of the traditional dresses in India.
I had sewn one for myself and posted in general section, had several requests for tutorial, decided to one and though why don't i do it on my daughter's measurements, so two things get done at same time. A tutorial and a lovely dress for my oh so lovely daughter. Made a top (recon) and a matching band and using remaining material a matching dupatta as well (shawl)
Now lets get on with business. Have a look at action shot first, before moving onto tutorial

Now lets move on to the tutorial
You would need the following measurements
Waist
Seat
Waist to Seat Length
Waist to Toe Length
Ankle Circumference
Side Piece Construction0-1 = Length - (waist to seat)
0-2 = 1/3 Seat - (waist to seat)
0-5 = 1/2 Material width (44 inches width material preferred. Approx 3 metres required for adult, i made this one with an old dupatta (shawl) measuring 2 metres)
2-3 = 0-5
5-5' = 1/2 inch (to give a slant)
1-4 = 1/2 ankle circumference
Join 0-2-1-4-3-5'
This makes the Side piece. Cut 4 pieces (2 + 2 opposite sides)
Centre Piece Construction0-1 = Length - (waist to seat)
width = 11 inches for adults (i have used 6" for my little daughter, the more the width, the more the number of pleats and hence more the fullness)
Cut 2 pieces of this center piece
Wasit Band Construction0-1 = waist to seat
0-2 = 2 inches
width of waist band = 1/2 seat + 4" ( i have used 2" for my daughter)
Cut 2 pieces of Waist band
Bottom Cuff ConstructionHeight = 4 inches for adults ( i have used 2 " for my daughter)
Width = 1/2 ankle + 11 inches (for adults) ( i have used 6" for my daughter)
0-1 = Height
0-2 = 2 inches extra for waist string loop
1-4 = width
Cut 2 pieces of bottom cuff
Just to give a hint of how the cut pieces will look

Now lets get on with how to do it
Step 1: Join the side pieces with centre piece for each leg. As shown in below picture

Repeat it for other leg as well
After joining pieces for a single leg (side n center joined together) it will look like this

Step 2: Sew the waist bands together 1-2
Step 3: Fold the joined side n center piece and find the midpoint. from there gather on either sides of mid-point in such a way that the gathered piece's width equals width of 1 piece of waist band.
Repeat for other joined piece

Step 4: Sew the crotch of side piece A & Side piece B together.

Step 5: Place the right side of bottom cuff to the wrong side of joined side n center piece at the bottom, sew

Fold the cuff to right side of side n center piece and sew after hemming it.

Step 6: Sew the leg portion of Side piece A & Side Piece B separately

Step 7: Make a drawstring and insert it into the waistband loop.
Your patiala salwar is ready to wear.
