I want the blank buttons so I can add my own images. Anyone know of a source?

Thanks!

Not just regular buttons, but the metal rim type?

No idea about the buttons (though I'd like to know too!), but you're unschooling your kids?  Awesome, awesome, awesome.  I was unschooled, or I unschooled?, back in the day, and I think it's the way to go.  Are you a Grace Llewellyn reader?  What prompted you?

Yes! I'm unschooling my girls... love Grace Llewllyn & John Holt... How cool that you were unschooled. Was it a positive experience for you? I've heard mixed feelings from some unschoolers - some loved it some felt something was missing. I think its fabulous and wish I'd have been unschooled as I was an outcast (too artsy) in my highschool and was bored to tears. LOL!

I may be totally off base with this...but I went searching none the less!  Here's what I found:

As far as the "glasslike appearance"...
"Intaglio Buttons"
These buttons are a fun way to dress something up. The images are photographs that have then been laminated with a plastic-resin coating. This coating is ever so slightly domed and makes the images shine. The resin coated image is then put into a metal base which provides a shank (so you can sew it on) and a nice metal rim. These buttons can be put in the washer and dryer. Stay away from bleach though since it could discolor the metal.  They look really similar...what do you think?  http://www.mendels.com/buttons_intaglio.html

Now if we can find the supplies for you to make them...
This site carries Deco Button covers... and glue on shanks.  Seems like you could turn any round button into what you are looking for...with these supplies.

I know Dick Blick sells all sorts of mediums & mixes for Intaglio, but I have never dealt with it personally... Sad

Don't mean to sound grouchy... Wink please try to keep the posts related to the craft.  Cheesy

What if you did something like this with your photos?

If you still wanted them to be buttons, you could attach a shank Wink

Has ANYONE seen these in their travels?
Thanks!
