This is a plain wood table I got from Ikea.  I gave it several coats of tan latex paint as an undercoat, then painted leaves, spirals and dots on it freehand in acrylic.  I outlined it in black acrylic and then brushed on 5 coats of waterbased urethane.  I love it!  I am planning on painting the chairs to match, and then moving on to paint more furniture.

I'm a professional artist so I have years of experience painting.  I used to sell painted furniture about ten years ago and seeing this one makes me want to do it again.

That's great! I love the organic style, I also like the constrast legs. Does the final coat protect the table well, or do you worry about glasses leaving water marks? I

The final coat leaves it very well protected.  It's our dining table and we spill water and stuff on it, I even scrub it off with a dish sponge.
